The Jaeger-LeCoultre Étrier: The Coolest Ladies JLC You Do Not Know About

By Abbie Harris

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Étrier is unlike any watch I have ever seen. While I love petite ladies Rolex watches, the aesthetic is completely recognizable. That is great, but when I saw the JLC Étrier, I could not recall a watch that looked like this peculiar timepiece. These watches were inspired by equestrian lifestyle and design - similar to an iconic watch known as the Reverso. If I were to be so bold as to make a prediction, JLC will undoubtedly re-release of the Étrier in the near future. It is too cool of a design to pass up. Étrier litteraly translates to “stirrup” - the loop/ring attached to the horse saddle which supports the rider's feet. According to Matthieu Sauret of Jaeger-LeCoultre, these watches were originally designed for the early JLC DuoPlans! They would eventually make a return in the 1960s with a variety of designs and dials. They one of the most incredible vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre watches that most collectors have no idea about! When I see the watch, I can recognize the subtle design cue stolen in contemporary Hermès watches, but that is beside the point. These lugs are some of the most imaginative in the industry and wearing this watch is like an object of art. I love the subtle details - like the signed JL crown at 6 o'clock, and the cute JL signed buckle which Charlie Dunne tells me is “incredibly hard to find in 14mm and even near impossible in 10mm!” Upon seeing these watches for the first time, I asked Charlie if he had any advertisements he could share for an article which are seen below.

If I am guiding a woman towards her next watch purchase, of course there is always a Rolex or even a Cartier. However, if she wants something truly exclusive and special the Jaeger-LeCoultre Étrier is a chic watch that you will probably never see on a woman’s wrist.
