Heuer Carrera Reference 3647S “Sherman Decker” Unpolished

This Heuer Carrera reference 3647S is an extraordinary example with great provenance. It is powered by the Valjoux calibre 92. The watches belonged to the legendary driver and road racer Sherman “Sherm” Decker, and presumably was a gift from Heuer.

The patinated dial features the driver’s name SHERMAN DECKER above 6:00. We only know of two other examples of name-only Carrera dials - one being the famous JAMES GARNER example that was worn by the famous actor and that sold for over $176,000 in 2022. This same font and style of dial was used on the legendary MG Carreras.

The stainless steel case measures approximately 36mm in diameter or 45mm lug to lug. The case appears to be unpolished. This is an incredibly early example with case serial 54398 - one of the earliest known two-register Carreras. Ben Clymer has the earliest known Carrera found by Eric on eBay many years ago for him and it has case serial 53781!

The watch does not come with box and papers. We do not know the service history, but it is running well.
