Leroy & Fils Triple Calendar Chronograph Unpolished

The rise of triple calendar chronograph wristwatches is one of the great chapters within 20th century watchmaking. These complications were an exclusive tool for the individual who not only cherished the craftsmanship of complicated timepieces, but understood their time as an invaluable resource.

The Leroy & Fils Triple Calendar Chronograph is powered by the Valjoux calibre 72C. This movement can be found within several brands such as Rolex, Heuer and more. It is an extension of the glorified base calibre Valjoux 72 (which powered the Rolex Daytona for just shy of three decades) dating back to the mid 1940s.

The watch was destined for a French speaking market as indicated by the calendar. The calendar apertures are changed by pressing in the button located on the case’s profile at 10 o’clock. The calendar hand is alternated by the second button between 8 and 9 o’clock. While the dial does show some signs of aging, it is in its original, untouched state (just like we love to find them). It features a vertically brushed pink finish. Contrasting with the yellow gold baton hands, applied Arabic 12 numeral and round hour markers, it is a highly legible timepiece.

The sub-seconds register is located at 9 o’clock. The subdial at 3 o’clock features a 30 minute register with additional demarcations to calculate any events that extend beyond the elapsed time. The third register located at 6 o’clock records 12 hour intervals.

The case back features hand engraved details denoting the manufacturer’s name and address, “LEROY & FILS - 35 AVE DE L’OPERA”. The case number is also engraved into the bottom of the caseback.

One of the subtle details that is worth emphasizing is the screw-in lugs. Somewhat of an elegant Parisian touch that was reserved for the likes of Cartier, Breguet and other high-end manufacturers, it is an interesting element which should be considered for the next owner.

Despite living a full life over the past several decades, the case appears to be unpolished, maintaining its original form. It does not come with box and papers. It was just serviced by Alkis!
