WatchPro: Welcome To An Era of $10 Million Watches
Rob Corder recently wrote for WatchPro Welcome To An Era of $10 Million Watches. In the article, Eric Wind is quoted.
Collectible watch expert Eric Wind, founder and CEO of Florida-based Wind Vintage, recognises what a remarkable set of auction results we have witnessed this year, but cautions against extrapolating this to a broad and deep pool of potential buyers bidding against each other for every “trophy” watch.
“I would love to say that all is fine and dandy, but I do think the top end of the market is being driven by a relatively small number of buyers, many of whom are newer to the world of vintage and rare watches. We saw the total bidders in the latest record-setting $90m+ USD Phillips Geneva auction (1,815 bidders from 74 countries) fall below last November’s total registered bidders (1,886) and well below the bidders registered in 2021 (2,311 for the December 2021 New York auction, for example),” he describes.
