Financial Times: Eric Wind Quoted on Red Carpet Watches

Kate Youde recently wrote for Financial Times “Vintage jewellery sellers seek red carpet exposure”. Within the article, Youde quotes Eric Wind.

Lovis does not lend watches in case they get scratched, but Palm Beach-based vintage watch dealer Eric Wind has no such qualms. He facilitated the loan to Will Smith for last year's Grammy Awards of a 1950s Universal Genève Polerouter Reference S 20217-7 he had recently sold to a client.

Wind says attention on watches worn on the red carpet "has really ramped up the last five years". As a result, he says "brands are getting pretty aggressive" whereas he won't pay to have celebrities wear his stock. "There's no real authenticity with what people are wearing," he adds. "It's just stuff that's put on their wrist."

He says his lending helps with brand building but is more about "evangelising vintage watches". He wants to do more. "I feel like there is going to be a bit of a rebound with people wanting to not do all the product placement and wanting something authentic, either their own watches or vintage that's part of the storytelling," says Wind, owner of Wind Vintage.
