Rolex Paul Newman Daytona Reference 6262 Black Dial

This is an incredible and special Rolex “Paul Newman” Daytona reference 6262 with black dial. The Rolex Daytona reference 6262 was the shortest produced manual-wind Daytona period being introduced in circa 1970 and remaining in production through circa 1971, merely one year! The Daytona reference 6262 is defined by the steel bezel and pump pushers, but the reference 6262 (and reference 6263, 6264, and 6265) would also usher in the Valjoux 727 which was a higher-frequency manual-wind calibre upgraded from the Valjoux 72 in predecessor references 6269, 6240, and 6241.

The Paul Newman reference 6262 black dials have an interesting dial variation where the ROLEX text is a bit more blocky and thick versus the earlier 6239 black dials, which have a thinner ROLEX text on the dial.

The case and bezel have been lightly polished in the past. It is paired on a Rolex Oyster stretch rivet reference 6635 bracelet with 57 end links. The serial number is 2.53M dating to circa 1971.
