Rolex Blue Dial/Bezel Submariner Reference 1680 in 18K YG on President Bracelet

This Rolex Submariner reference 1680 an incredible watch that I first found in Mexico during circa 2018. It is one of the most attractive yellow gold Submariner reference 1680s we have ever seen. It features the beautiful blue matte dial with blue bezel insert. More often these are black dials and black inserts. These blue dial variants were produced sparingly throughout the 1970s. This specific watch was featured in my Rolex Submariner Reference Points video and article. It is paired on a yellow gold President bracelet that was sold with the watch and were an option at point of sale for on watches in Central America.

The watch dates to circa 1979 with a 5.9M serial. The case measures 40mm in diameter. It has been lightly polished. The dial, minute and hour hand all have the original lume. The dial has a small imperfection near the center at 9 o’clock.

According to Rolex, the Submariner reference 1680 in yellow gold consisted of only 5,765 examples! For comparison, the Submariner reference 5512’s production consisted of 17,338 examples and the Submariner reference 5513’s production consisted 151,449 examples.

It does not come with box and papers. We do not know the service history but it is running well. It just passed a water resistance test of 5 bar.
