Rolex Gilt Dial Explorer Reference 1016 w/ Papers, Receipt & Associated Box
The Rolex Explorer reference 1016 is an icon of simplicity and function. The Explorer reference 1016 was produced from 1960 until circa 1989 and it was the first Explorer with “Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" on the dial. The 1016 is one of the purest expressions of watch design and I am asked for great vintage Explorer reference 1016 examples more than any other watch.
This example features an incredible gilt dial with extremely sharp font. The gold hands complement the font and luminous material. It features a 105,XXX serial dating it to circa 1964. The case has been lightly polished. It is paired on a later Rolex 7206 Rivet bracelet dating to 1968 with correct 58 end links.
The watch measures 36mm in diameter (43mm lug-to-lug).

It does come with papers and receipt from the retailer John Bull in Nassau, Bahamas! The watch comes with an associated box. We do not know the service history, but it is running well. The watch recently passed a water resistance test of 3 bar.
