Below is a note from the consignor:
Offered for sale is a GMT-MASTER 16700 in NOS (new-old-stock) unworn condition from 1998 which was the last year of production for the GMT 16700.
This 1998 GMT-MASTER 16700, serial number A61XXXX, is a complete set with the original warranty paper, hang tags, inner/outer boxes and booklets. The watch has never been worn and has the original 16700 caseback sticker, the clear protective caseback sticker and bracelet sticker still attached to the watch. The watch was originally sold in Anaheim Hills, CA, during March 2000 and has the original owner’s name on the paper. The original box has a dealer tag on it with the model number and listed price of $3300. The back of the warranty paper has the Rolex USA red letter code of RRCCC which indicates the watch was shipped from Rolex USA to the dealer in California on or about Jan. 19, 1999.
The watch is coded for a black bezel insert - both on the warranty paper and green hang tag. The original bracelet is the Oyster 78790 with all the original links, 501B end links and X8 (August 1998) clasp code.
The dial is the Luminova SWISS marked dial which replaced the tritium SWISS T<25 dials during 1998 with these dials being used for a little over a year before they were replaced by the Luminova SWISS MADE dials. Many collectors find these “SWISS” dials more collectible due to them being a one year production run.
During the 1990s, when original Rolex watches were sold by the authorized dealers, they did not contain full case stickers as they do now, but instead, had a green case back sticker with the model number typed on the tag along with a clear red-stripe protective sticker over the top of this green sticker. There was also a clear, red stripe sticker found on the bracelet clasp. This was the extent of the stickers found on watches during the 1990s. This watch being offered for sale contains all of the original case/bracelet stickers.
For this sale, the bracelet was carefully removed from the 6 o’clock side of the case to obtain a photo of the serial number. Once the serial number was photographed, the lugs were appropriately taped up to protect them from being scratched and the bracelet was reattached to the watch.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to purchase an outstanding example of the GMT 16700 for their collection from its last year of 16700 production and in original NOS (new old stock) condition.
