Rolex Tropical Gilt Underline Explorer I Reference 1016
The Rolex Explorer reference 1016 is one of the purest expressions of watch design, and it is for this reason that I am probably asked for vintage Explorer reference 1016s more than any other watch.
This model features a tropical gilt underline dial. The watch features a 1.04M serial and dates to circa 1964. The case is 36mm in diameter. It has been polished in the past. It is paired on a later folded link Rolex bracelet dating to 1971. This watch also features 280 end-links, which are typically associated with Submariners.
The watch does not come with box and papers. We do not know the service history, but it is running well. It recently passed a water resistance test of 5 bar.
