Rolex Tropical Paul Newman Panda Daytona Reference 6263 Unpolished Full Set
There are Paul Newman Daytonas and then there are Paul Newman Daytonas. This is the latter.
This Rolex “Paul Newman” Panda Daytona reference 6263 is a trophy example. It is a “Triple Crown” winner in our book: unpolished case, insanely beautiful dial, and box and papers with great provenance from the original owner.
The dial is in spectacular condition and the lume plots are fully intact, which is rare for vintage Daytonas. The subdials and outer track have turned tropical brown and are unbelievably gorgeous.
This watch has a 3.04M case serial number dating to circa 1972. It is powered by the manual-wind movement Caliber 727 made by Valjoux and is 37mm in diameter.
It features the correct Mark II screw-down pushers. IThe bracelet is a period correct 7835 folded link Oyster with 271 end links. The case appears to be unpolished. It features the correct and original Mark 1 acrylic bezel, which is in great condition.
The comes with box and papers as well as a note from the original Swedish owner regarding his ownership of the watch. It was originally sold at auction in Sweden and we cannot think of a Panda that we like more than this one. We do not know the service history, but it is running well.
Finding a Paul Newman Panda 6263 in this condition is extremely difficult. This is one of the most exceptional vintage Rolex watches we have sold all year.
