Universal Genève Hermès Compax Chronograph in 18k Yellow Gold on Bracelet w/ Extract, Box and French Magazine
This is a very special Universal Genève Compax chronograph for the French market. The watch dates to circa 1936. The dial is an incredibly rare double-signed example with the early Hermès signature with applied-Arabic numerals. The dial is non-luminous. The dial features a blue tachometer scale and red telemetric. It is paired on a stunning and ornately made 18k yellow gold bracelet. The watch is powered by the manual wind calibre 287.
The case is made of 18k yellow fold. It measures approximately 34.5mm in diameter. It has been lightly polished.
This watch features a lug design similar to the very rare Universal Genève chronographs by Henri Jeanneret in Peseux. There is speculation that Henri Jeanneret may have been related to Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier, who designed Chandigarh, India and whose Jeanneret chairs are highly-prized by collectors worldwide.
It does not come with papers. It does come with an Extract from Universal Genève. It does come with an Hermès leather box. It comes with a French magazine L'illustration with a Universal Genève Hermes advertisement. We do not know the service history, but it is running well.
