Vacheron & Constantin $20 Coin Watch Unpolished w/ Certificate of Origin & Letter from VP of V&C
Coin watches are remarkable creations which are both extremely uncommon and very difficult to create. Made from two coins, they are an interesting blend of horology, numismatics, and history. More often than not, these coins would begin as legal tender, then would require a skilled coin maker to dissect two sides, carve an interior within each to house the timepiece, and finally reconstruct the two sides in a hinged fashion.
Vacheron & Constantin is among the sophisticated watchmakers involved in creating these timepieces. This example is an exceptional $20 1900 coin. The watch is referred to by Vacheron & Constantin as model 4928. It dates to circa 1967 according to the letter from Vacheron & Constantin Vice President Allen Devisson indicating the purchase by a Mr. Bertram S. Lowe.
These are the ultimate horological accessories and, in our view, way cooler than any Vacheron & Constantin watch that you could purchase today (possibly with exception to that Berkley watch they were glazing on HODINKEE!). VC should probably purchase this and sell it for 5X the price. Chrisian Selmoni, if you are reading this - convince Johann Rupert that VC needs this for their museum. It is too cool to let slide.
We are elated to offer this timepiece. It is among Charlie and Eric’s favorite coin watches and they will be bowing down and worshiping the next owner.
We do not know the service history, but it is running great. It does not come with box. It does come with a Certificate of Origin and letter from the Vice President of Vacheron & Constantin
