Rolex Paul Newman Tropical Daytona Reference 6239 Unpolished

This is a rare Rolex “Paul Newman” Daytona Reference 6239 with a spectacular white dial with tropical subregisters.

The tropical dial is one of the most attractive tropical dial chronograph models I have ever held. It is just out of this world!

The case appears to be unpolished. It is paired on an American made oval link Rolex bracelet made by JB Champion - which adds a bit of heft to the watch on the wrist. The serial number is 2.00M dating to circa 1969. The serial is close to Paul Newman’s former watch and very close to Paul Newman’s own Paul Newman Daytona that sold for $17.8 million USD in 2018.

The watch does not come with box and papers. I purchased it from a coin store in Wisconsin who got it from the original owner’s family last year. As a proud Wisconsinite, I was thrilled such an amazing watch out of Wisconsin. I found the watch on a strap and added the Jubilee bracelet, which is unpolished and very attractive. It recently passed a water resistance test of 5 bar.

This is a rare opportunity to own one of the nicest Rolex “Paul Newman” Daytonas on the planet. Is it expensive? Yes. A similar tropical Paul Newman Daytona reference 6241 sold a few weeks ago in NYC for over $900,000 and back in 2018 a similar 6239 with extremely close serial number sold for 951,000 CHF in Geneva in more worn condition. These are priced in line with those examples.

Is it the best? In my opinion, yes.

This is an incredible Rolex “Paul Newman” Daytona reference 6239 with white dial.

The case and bezel appear to be unpolished and are extremely crisp. It is paired on a Rolex Oyster rivet reference 7205 bracelet with correct and very rare 71 end links dating to 1968. We added the bracelet to the watch, which we found head only on a strap. The serial number is 1.9M dating to circa 1969. The serial is close to Paul Newman’s own Paul Newman Daytona Reference 6239 that sold for $17.8 million USD in 2018.

It has good provenance and is a fantastic example. The watch does not come with box and papers. We do not know the service history, but it is running well.

The watch is gorgeous - it is so difficult to find great Paul Newman Daytonas with white dials like this example. Finding an unpolished? I might see one or two maximum come to market each year. I can envision a day in the not-too-distant future where each great Paul Newman Daytona with white dial is $1 million or more and I expect whoever buys this watch will be very happy to own it as time passes.

It recently passed a water resistance test of 5 bar.

Vulcain Cricket Reference 303001 Unpolished 5 Patents

This Vulcain Cricket reference 303001 is among the early oversized Cricket models from the 1950s. Similar to the “King Cricket” model, the case dimensions are 38mm in diameter (47mm lug to lug) with a lug-width of 20mm. It is unpolished.

These oversized or “Jumbo” Vulcain Crickets are some of the most interesting and wearable vintage Cricket models, but their interest should be far wider than that. Collectors of oversized vintage time-only and chronograph models, such as vintage Longines, Breitling or Universal Genève collectors, often have not had the chance to see one of these rare models in person, but when they do, it is not unusual to hear an audible gasp or at least eyes widening when they try it on their wrist.

This example is very interesting in that it features the 5 patents on both the case back and movement - which is incredible.

It features the beautifully applied Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9, and 12 with corresponding applied hour markers.

The watch dates to the early to mid 1950s, and is powered by the calibre 120. As a passionate Cricket collector, I am thrilled to offer this fantastic example to the next lucky owner.

The watch does not come with box and papers. We do not know the service history, but it is running well.
