Rolex Queen Midas Reference 4313 in 18k YG
The King & Queen Midas were among the most expensive Rolex by far at retail in the 1960s and 1970s. Starting in the 1970s, Rolex changed the dial to have Cellini instead of Midas in Greek on the dial and also introduced the smaller Queen Midas model. The King Midas has been closely associated with Elvis Presley, who is photographed holding one, and more recently with Rihanna, who wore a customized model for her pregnancy announcement.
It is said that Gérald Genta designed these watches and they certainly seemed to be part of the evolution of integrated watch design that led to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, IWC Ingenieur 1832, and Patek Philippe Nautilus.
The integrated bracelets and deployant buckle is extremely firm. The 18k yellow gold case has been lightly polished. It measures approximately 24mm at the widest point, and the length of the case is also 24mm. It measures a wrist up to 6 inches.
The timepiece is powered by a calibre 650.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox Ref E 853 Unpolished
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox reference E 853 is one of my favorite watches of all time. This example dates to the late 1950s. The case measures 37mm in diameter and wears excellent. We believe the case is unpolished. I have found the reference E 853 to be quite hard to model to locate nice examples. The E 855 is also tricky to find nice models, but the no-date variant is just a bit more tricky.
The watch is powered by the calibre 815, automatic alarm wristwatch. The movement is a bumper-automatic, which means it does not rotate a full 360 degrees. Instead, the oscillating weight will bounce back and forth between two spring sides within the movement. The reference’s “E” stands for Etanche, which indicates the case is a water-resistant model.
Along with the Atmos clock and Reversos, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s advancements in alarm timepieces throughout the 20th century are certainly one of the most iconic genres from the Le Sentier manufacturer.
