Rolex Tropical Gilt Explorer I Reference 1016 Full Set w/ Letter of Provenance

The Rolex Explorer reference 1016 is one of the purest expressions of watch design, and it is for this reason that I am probably asked for vintage Explorer reference 1016s more than any other watch.

This model features a tropical gilt dial. The watch features a 1.15M serial and dates to circa 1965. The case is 36mm in diameter. It is in nice condition and has been lightly polished. It is paired on a period correct Rolex 7206 rivet bracelet with 58 end links dating to 1964. The hands have been color matched.

It comes with a letter of provenance from the original owner who was a Junior Officer in the British Merchant Navy. They purchased the watch at Artland Watch Co in Hong Kong while working overseas. They detail in the letter having one bad memory with the watch - an altercation in Manila where a thief tried to steal their 1016! Thankfully they held tight to the watch and had allies come to defend him.

The watch comes with box and papers. It was recently serviced in December 2025 and is running well.

Enicar Ocean Pearl Alarm Unpolished

The Enicar Ocean Pearl Alarm is a very rare watch that most people have never heard of. When you ask knowledgeable vintage watch enthusiasts to cite the manufacturers that made Alarm Dive watches - they will immediately say “The Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Alarm”, “The Polaris of course!”, or begin screaming “Vulcain Cricket Nautical, Vulcain Cricket Nautical, Vulcain Cricket Nautical!” 😱 (Yes, these conversations do occur). However, there is also an Enicar dive alarm watch - also with an EPSA case! These watches are incredibly cool, and compact dive models. It features the A. Schilds calibre. The case measures 35mm in diameter by 44mm in length. The case is unpolished. The bracelet is a later unsigned model that looks very nice on the watch. Rolex Big Daytona Reference 6239 w/ Letter of Provenance

The Rolex Daytona reference 6239 is the original and earliest reference of the Daytona. This example features a “Big Daytona” logo where DAYTONA is large and underneath COSMOGRAPH on the dial. I really love the way the ROLEX / COSMOGRAPH / DAYTONA text lines up in descending order like a pyramid in shape.

This example also has the original early “300” Mark 2 reference 6239 bezel, which differs from later examples by having 300 on the tachymeter bezel and “UNITS PER HOUR” between 12 and 2 o’clock, whereas later bezels have it by 3 o’clock. This is the second version of the steel bezel found on the reference 6239 and the earliest Mark 1 examples have a 275 and dashes rather than dots next to the numbers. The dial is super attractive with the silver soleil dial. The registers are turning slightly brown, but I would not necessarily call it tropical.

The case features a 1.52 million serial number dating it to circa 1967. The case has been polished in the past, but is extremely attractive.

The watch does not come with box and papers, but it does come with a letter from the daughter of the original owner. Rolex Milgauss Reference 1019 Black Dial w/ Box

When it comes to the antimagnetic wristwatches of the 1950s-1960s, several manufacturers produced what would go on to become iconic timepieces. Among those are the IWC Ingenieur, the Eberhard Scientigraf, the Omega Railmaster, as well as Patek Philippe’s reference 2570 / 2570-1 and 3417. However, one of the most beloved models of orientated for the physicist or engineer of the day was none other than the Rolex Milgauss.

The Rolex Milgauss reference 1019 was the successor for the reference 6541. Like many of the Milgauss models over the years, the dial features a distinctive look that deviates from the consistent aesthetics from Rolex models.

This is the Mark 1 black dial with lume across the 3:00, 6:00, and 9:000 markers - later examples have luminous plots only on the outside of the hour markers. The case has been polished. This same font and style of dial was used on the legendary MG Carreras.

The stainless steel case measures approximately 36mm in diameter or 45mm lug to lug. The case appears to be unpolished.
